Synopsis

Gremlin is a musical about self-esteem and bullying. Winner of the Betty Lambert Memorial Prize, Gremlin is a trip into the psyche of a young girl with low self-esteem.

Twelve-year-old Angela Everett has problems. Her mother is always away on business trips. Her father can’t be serious for more than two sentences unless he’s grounding her. Her pesky neighbour, Jeff, never lets her alone. And she is plagued by an inner Gremlin bent on destroying what is left of her self-esteem.

As she spirals deeper into the murk of self-depreciation, the Gremlin cheers her on, trips her up and sings her down. Not until she can look into the mirror, face herself and embrace her personal demon with an act of love can Angela be free. back to top

REVIEWS

Gremlin is the best production on the subject of bullying that has ever been presented at our school.” Principal, Ocean Park Elementary.

“Vanessa and Ian…create exciting theatre for young people, with important messages our kids need to hear. I attended Gremlin last week and was thrilled to see how effective their work is with young people.” David Ross, Artistic Producer, Western Canada Theatre

Gremlin was so well-received that we mounted a second, sold-out BC tour this spring, and on my recommendation, Geordie Theatre also has been touring their own production of the piece.” Chris McGregor, Co-Artistic Director, Carousel Theatre.
